DESCRIPTION:ANZSMS was formed in 1970 and has as its mission to bring together the broad spectrum of scientists who work in the field of mass spectrometry and its allied disciplines. In keeping with this mission\, ANZSMS25 will promote the science of mass spectrometry by facilitating interaction with local\, regional and international leaders from all areas of science in which mass spectrometry plays a central role. We are delighted to be holding ANZSMS25 as a joint meeting with our sister societies in Asia and Oceania. This will be the 6th time the AOMSC has been held and the first in the southern hemisphere and provides a unique opportunity to engage with the world-class science and scientists from our own region. We hope you will join us in Brisbane for this exciting showcase of mass spectrometric research.” \nThe 2015 conference will include a Metabolomics session sponsored by the Metabolomics Society\, featuring Prof Lloyd Sumner. SUMMARY:Introduction to Integrative Omics
DESCRIPTION:http://www.ebi.ac.uk/training/course/introduction-integrative-omics \nWith the increase in the volume of data across the whole spectrum of biology\, more researchers are looking to integrate data of different types to inform hypotheses and biological questions. This may be public domain data which researchers themselves have not generated\, but can provide added value to datasets derived through their own work. This course will provide participants with an overview of working with a number of ‘omics’ data types in a more integrated manner; considering both its potential and caveats. The course will focus on the use of public data resources and open access tools for enabling integrated working\, with an emphasis on data visualisation.

SUMMARY:3rd Annual Practical Applications of NMR in Industry Conference (PANIC)
DESCRIPTION:http://www.panicnmr.com \nYou are invited to attend Practical Applications of NMR in Industry Conference (PANIC)\, February 9 – 12\, 2015 in La Jolla\, CA. Students are encouraged to apply for travel awards\, and the Metabolomics Society has sponsored one award (free registration) that is exclusively available to Early-Career Members of the Metabolomics Society! \nThe PANIC meeting is intended to address topics that occur daily in industrial\, government\, and academic research laboratories whose primary task entails the application of NMR to a diverse set of analytical problems. Topics include quantitation\, molecular structure characterization\, trace component and mixture analysis\, and product support for a variety of materials that include small molecules\, polymers\, heterogeneous mixtures\, natural products\, biosimilars\, polysaccharides\, and proteins. The conference provides in-depth discussions of the “nuts and bolts” of basic NMR experiments that accent the underlying best-practices developed to address these everyday problems. It also explores the regulatory aspects of the applications of these experiments. \nGreater insights will be provided into the less frequently explored techniques used in NMR such as quantitation\, chemometrics\, automation\, relaxometry\, and at/on line instrumentation. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss applications of NMR to polymers\, petroleum\, food\, agriculture\, and nutritional supplements that are rarely discussed at other NMR meetings. Ample opportunity will be given to Network with people who are experts in inventing NMR experiments to solve real world problems in a timely and efficient manner that is demanded by working in the venue of product delivery.

SUMMARY:Hands On Data Analysis for Metabolic Profiling
DESCRIPTION:This 4 day course provides a comprehensive overview of data analysis for metabolic profiling studies\, using data acquired from both liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and NMR spectroscopy. The course is taught by expert practitioners who have developed many of the approaches used\, and takes place at one of the world’s leading research centres for metabolic profiling. Participants will come away with an understanding of data analysis tools and approaches which they will be able to implement in their own laboratories.\nThe course combines lectures and tutorial sessions to ensure a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical applications. Throughout there will be an emphasis on understanding concepts rather than detailed mathematical derivations. No prior training in metabolic profiling or chemometrics is required. \nDay 1: Introductory lectures and tutorials regarding the pre-processing of data acquired via MS and NMR.\nDay 2: Lectures and tutorials to introduce basic chemometrics tools such as PCA and a look ahead to new technologies.\nDay 3: Lectures and tutorials regarding the supervised and advanced chemometrics techniques e.g. PLS\, OPLS and O2PLS\, including tips and tricks for practical application.\nDay 4: Using pathway based tools to interpret results and application of statistical tools to metabolite identification\, e.g. STOCSY. \nOnline booking: http://www5.imperial.ac.uk/medicine/coursebookings/handsondata_11_2014.html \nPlease visit our website at http://www1.imperial.ac.uk/iiptc/\, contact Dr Tim Ebbels (t.ebbels@imperial.ac.uk) or Dr Elizabeth Want on 0207 594 3023 (iptc@imperial.ac.uk) for further information.

SUMMARY:Challenges and advances in the annotation and de novo identification of small molecules
DESCRIPTION:http://www.icsn.cnrs-gif.fr/spip.php?rubrique191&lang=en \nThis is the first in a series of workshops to promote the emergence of a community interested in developing and standardizing methods and reporting guidelines for the characterization of natural products and the annotation and identification of other small molecules including metabolites. Metabolite annotation and identification is central to the study of metabolism in many different organisms and is of prime importance in the discovery of bioactive products. A progressive merger between the disciplines applied in natural products research and metabolomics studies is expected and will profit from a common effort in developing and sharing methods\, expertise and reporting guidelines.
