Dr. Ralf Weber obtained a BSc degree in Bioinformatics from the HAN University of Applied Sciences Nijmegen in the Netherlands. In 2007, he moved to the University of Birmingham (Prof. Mark Viant) where he completed a PhD in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics. During his PhD he developed several novel analytical and bioinformatics approaches to improve the collection and interpretation of mass spectral datasets. Since 2010, he has been a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Birmingham working on a variety of environmental and clinical metabolomics projects.

His current research interests include: the application of mass spectrometry-based metabolomics in the clinical and environmental realm and its relevance to human health issues, the development of novel bioinformatics methodologies to derive clear biochemical interpretations of data, and the integration of metabolomics data with other omics data streams, such as transcriptomics and genomics. More recently he has gained interest in "big data" and cloud computing, and the integration and applications of it in the omics arena.
